Road fatalities in Cambodia decline in H1

PHNOM PENH, July 15 (Xinhua) -- The number of road fatalities in Cambodia declined to 919 in the first six months of 2016, down 10 percent compared to the same period last year, according to a report from the Interior Ministry's public order department on Friday.

Some 1,900 cases of road accidents were reported during the January-June period this year, down 12 percent compared to the same period last year, the report said.

In addition, the crashes injured 3,309 others, also down 12 percent, it said.

Main causes of the accidents were due to high-speed driving, alcohol driving, and neglect driving, it added.

Road accidents are a leading cause of deaths in this Southeast Asian country, killing an average of six people a day.
