HANOI, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc demanded the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) to achieve a 10 percent export growth in 2016.
Phuc made the remark at a conference reviewing the MoIT's activities in the first half (H1) of 2016 held in capital Hanoi on Tuesday, reported Vietnam's state-run news agency VNA on Wednesday.
In H1, Vietnam's export revenue hit 82.24 billion U.S. dollars, up 5.9 percent year-on-year.
Meanwhile, Vietnam's industrial production index in H1 grew at 7.5 percent and economic growth expanded 5.52 percent, both lower than the same period last year.
Vietnamese cabinet chief suggested that in order to renovate state management and engage the private sector in the country's industrialization and modernization, state-owned enterprises should be made smaller while private firms continue to grow with supports of sound policies.
On the occasion, Phuc urged the MoIT to raise responsibility in combating corruption and wastefulness, reported VNA.
In 2015, the country's export revenue hit 162.11 billion U.S. dollars, up 7.9 percent year-on-year, said Vietnam Customs.
