BUCHREST, July 11 (Xinhua) -- The Romanian Foreign Ministry on Monday voices its profound regret over the death of the honorary consul to the Republic of El Salvador, Emanuel Ricardo Salume Barake.
Salume Barake's body was found at his home on Sunday in San Salvador, bound and gagged in what is suspected of being a homicide, the Salvadoran police said.
The details about the death of the honorary consul are going to be clarified in the judicial investigations conducted by local authorities, said a release of the Romanian Foreign Ministry.
The ministry also expressed the hope that those responsible for the act will be identified in the shortest time and held accountable before justice.
According to the ministry, Salume Barake, 71, was appointed as Romania's honorary consul in 1994, after consultations with the Foreign Ministry of El Salvador.
The honorary consuls aren't Romanian state employees and neither paid for their activity, as they are elected from the Romanian or foreign citizens with residence in the accrediting state, according to the Foreign Ministry.
It is the second murder involving a diplomat in the Central American country, after the body of Panama's honorary consul, Carlos Armado Lemus, was found in an abandoned car in the capital on May 26. Enditem
