Vietnam's motorcycle sales up 8 pct in H1

HANOI, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam, which is known as a motorcycle kingdom, saw a growth of 8 percent in motorcycle sales in the first half of 2016, according to the Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (VAMM) on Monday.

During the period, some 1.4 million motorcycles were sold. It was the first growth in motorcycle sales since 2012.

Earlier in 2015, some 2.8 million new motorcycles were sold across the country.

According to statistics, the number of registered motorcycles in Vietnam has exceeded 43 million units as of the end of 2014.

In Vietnam's capital Hanoi, currently there are over 5.5 million private vehicles, including more than 5 million motorcycles and some 500,000 cars. The number of motorcycles in the city is estimated to reach 11 million by 2025. The city's authority is discussing to ban motorcycles in Hanoi in 2025.
