UNITED NATIONS, July 5 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday condemned terrorist attacks in Saudi Arabia, which were carried out as people were preparing for Eid al-Fitr celebrations to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

Ban condemned Monday's attacks in the cities of Jeddah, Qatif and Medina, a statement issued here by Ban's spokesman. "These crimes are all the more despicable as they were carried out as residents were preparing for Eid al-Fitr celebrations to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan."

The UN chief expressed "his deepest sympathy and condolences" to the families of the victims and to the government and people of Saudi Arabia, the statement said. "He wishes a speedy recovery to those injured."

At least four people were killed in the triple bombings, reports said.

"The secretary-general hopes that those responsible for these crimes will be identified and brought to justice," the statement said. "He stresses the need to intensify regional and international efforts to prevent and combat terrorism." Enditem
