PHNOM PENH, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Some 37 people, including 29 foreigners and 8 Cambodians, got injured after a passenger bus flipped onto its side in southeastern Cambodia's Svay Rieng province on Monday, a local police officer confirmed.
The bus, operated by the Mekong Express Limousine Bus, was travelling from Cambodia's Phnom Penh capital to Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City when the accident took place at 11:20 a.m., said Van Sophanna, deputy police chief of Svay Chrum district.
"All 37 passengers, including 29 foreigners from western and European countries, sustained minor injuries in the crash," he told Xinhua, blaming the accident to drowsy driving.
He said the driver escaped the scene soon after the accident.
Road accidents account for more deaths than landmines, malaria and dengue fever in the Southeast Asian nation. Last year, road traffic crashes killed 2,265 people and injured 7,510 others, according to a National Police's report.
