HANOI, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam and Cambodia on Wednesday pledged continued close cooperation with each other and with other countries to ensure management and sustainable use of Mekong River water as well as boost Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC).

The move came during talks between Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and visiting Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn in capital Hanoi on Wednesday.

Lancang is the Chinese name for the upper reaches of the Mekong River. The Lancang-Mekong stream stretches nearly 5,000 km through the six countries of China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.

The LMC mechanism was initiated in 2014 in accordance with the strong will of the six countries along the river for development and prosperity.

At the talks, Vietnamese and Cambodian officials agreed to speed up the remaining work of land border demarcation and strived to soon bring the bilateral trade revenue to 5 billion U.S. dollars, reported the e-Portal of Vietnamese government on Wednesday.

On the same day, the Cambodian guest also met with Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang and Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

At the invitation of Minh, Prak Sokhonn is touring Vietnam from Tuesday to Thursday.

Vietnam and Cambodia established diplomatic ties in 1967.
