LUSAKA, June 16 (Xinhua) -- The World Bank has approved a 6 million U.S. dollars funding for the implementation of a program aimed at enhancing research on animal diseases in Zambia, state-run news agency reported on Thursday.
The funds will go towards the implementation of the Africa Center of Excellence in Emerging and Zoonotic Diseases by the country's biggest public university, the University of Zambia.
The project aims to develop skilled human resource that will contribute to the development of innovative interventions for the control and elimination of emerging zoonotic diseases through research and training.
Mick Mwala, the university's vice-chancellor said the project will run for a period of five years and that it will be implemented in collaboration with the Copperbelt University School of Medicine, Hokkaido University and Sokoine University of Agriculture as well as the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences of Tanzania.
