TOKYO, June 15 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks dropped from the off on Wednesday as investor consternation grows about an upcoming referendum that may see Britain opt to leave the European Union.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 75.54 points, or 0.48 percent, from Tuesday to 15,783.46.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 4.92 points, or 0.39 percent, to 1,267.01.
Notable early decliners comprised banking, electric power and gas as well as iron and steel-linked issues.
