LUSAKA, June 14 (Xinhua) -- At least 20 people were hospitalized after eating suspected poisoned food at a wedding in Zambia's Kafue district situated about 45 kilometers south of Lusaka, the country's capital, state-run news agency reported Tuesday.
Health officials in the district said among those admitted at a local hospital include the bride and her groom although no deaths have been recorded, according to the Zambian News and Information Service (ZANIS).
Kafue District Medical Officer Chiza Simpungwe said the people were admitted after complaining of running stomach, high fever and vomiting.
The official however described the victims' conditions as stable and that so far six males, three children and one female had been discharged while the remaining ones were still undergoing treatment.
Various food samples from the wedding have since been taken to the country's main referral hospital, the University Teaching Hospital (UTH), in Lusaka for further investigations. Enditem
