The growth in car sales' figures in the country assume significance amid the COVID-19 pandemic, which has adversely affected the overall Indian economy with job losses and economic slowdown.

India continues to be among the worst pandemic affected countries globally.

The Maruti Suzuki India Limited posted total sales of 153,223 units in November 2020, thus showing a growth of 1.7 percent over November 2019.

The total sales include domestic sales of 138,956 units and 5,263 units for other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

In addition, the company exported 9,004 units in November.

The Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) also registered 55 percent growth in sales in November, as compared to the sales in same month last year.

The company sold as many as 9,990 units in the domestic market, as against 6,459 units in corresponding month last year, registering a growth of 55 percent.

It also exported a total of 31 units in November.

Commenting on the sales performance, the carmaker's Vice President and Director for Marketing & Sales Rajesh Goel said, "The festive season this year was good for us with sales improving by 55 percent in November, and contributing to overall industry growth."

"Although there are continuing challenges of pandemic and its impact on overall consumer sentiment, the rise in personal mobility is expected to help us sustain our sales momentum during the rest of fiscal year," he added. Enditem
