BEIJING, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Sunday answered questions by journalists from home and abroad on China's foreign policy and foreign relations at a press conference on the sidelines of the ongoing annual national legislative session.

Many overseas observers have said China has made great contributions to the world peace and stability by firmly upholding multilateralism and striving to improve global governance.

In the face of the COVID-19 epidemic, China has practiced the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind, provided assistance to other countries, and promoted international anti-epidemic cooperation, which is commendable and shows its responsibility as a responsible major country, they stressed.

Jorge Chediek, the United Nations Secretary General's envoy on South-South Cooperation and director of the UN Office for South-South Cooperation, said that in recent years, China, as one of the global emerging economies, has played an increasingly important role in both promoting global governance and helping set up new multilateral institutions such as the New Development Bank, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Muthana Mishaan al-Mazrouei, professor of geopolitics with Baghdad's Mustansiriyah University, said China's sense of responsibility as a major country can be seen in its sticking to the path of peaceful development, deepening mutually beneficial cooperation with countries, mediating on hotspot issues, pushing the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind, and commitment to world peace and stability.

Commenting upon the significance amid COVID-19 of the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind aiming to enhance global peace and common development, Ilya Kusa, an expert at the Ukrainian Institute of the Future, said, "I believe that these proposals are quite reasonable and pragmatic."

Faced with the common enemy of coronavirus, experts believe mankind shares a common destiny and call on countries to put differences behind and fight together.

Sylwester Szafarz, former consul general of Poland in the Chinese city of Shanghai, said China's efforts are particularly remarkable and precious amid the pandemic.

China has been "sharing valuable Chinese experience and expertise, modern equipment and highly qualified medical personnel with numerous other nations in need, thus reducing the danger and scope of the pandemic and its harmful global consequences," Szafarz said, adding, "this is the famous Chinese humanism in international actions which is the community with a shared future for mankind."

Syrian political analyst Hussam Shuaib said "China is dealing responsibly with the disease in a serious and real way, and it demonstrates the humanity of the Chinese government and its concern about the spread of this virus, especially in developing countries," by providing support to the countries' anti-virus efforts as well as the global fight.

Cavince Adhere, an international relations expert with a focus on China-Africa relations, said countries see "China speed" in its effectively bringing the coronavirus situation under control in a short time.

China has made devoted efforts towards a community with a shared future for mankind, which have shown its sense of responsibility as a major country, Adhere said. Enditem
