ROME, March 27 (Xinhua) -- The cumulative number of coronavirus cases in Italy reached 86,498 on Friday, surpassing the figure in China, according to official data from the Italian government.
The coronavirus pandemic claimed 969 more lives within one day, a new single-day high in fatalities registered in locked-down Italy, according to the latest data provided by the Civil Protection Department which is coordinating Italy's national emergency response.■
